        Today we start a new unit. We will be focusing on the theme of the unit, which is Courage. We will observe how having courage and faith can turn your whole life around. Today I will be reading Chapter 1 which is called "The Boy Who Lived.

Adding Fractions with unlike denominators.

     Today we will look at adding fractions. When we have fractions with the same denominator it's very easy to add.      Ex. 1/3 +1/3 = 2/3       But what happens when we have fractions that have different denominators? This is when we have to find the lowest common denominator.      Ex. 1/2+1/4      In this case we will have to look at the multiples of 2 and 4 in order to find the common multiple between the two numbers.      2 - 2, 4 , 6, 8, 10, 12     4 - 4 , 8, 12, 16, 20     The lowest common multiple is 4. Since 1/4 already has a denominator of 4, we only have to change 1/2 to have a denominator of four. How we do this is by multiplying 1/2 by 2 in order to get a denominator of 4, what you do to the bottom you must do to the top.      1/2*2/2 = 2/4     Now we can add the two fractions together!     2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4     Please wa...
